Hello and Welcome to Kennet Valley Hash House Harriers

We did well . . in fact we did very well. Last year we won (!) the wooden spoon but this time out of a field of 38 we came 30th in our best time ever! Well done to the runners:

  • Jorge
  • John

Jeremy will have a Hash mag for us next week.

Jeremy – outgoing third GOM

Our GOMs - Maurice, Jeremy, Margaret and Mike.

Our GOMs - Maurice, Jeremy, Margaret and Mike.

We had a cracking Hash out of the Horseshoe in Mildenhall. The trail was set by Jeremy as it was his last day as Grand Old Master (GOM) and was followed by presentations and speeches to celebrate a very successful GOMship, and of course we had a round of “down-down-down” and a lovely meal and a few beers.

Mike (our first GOM) was scribe and will have the magazine in a week or so and we can share the detail. Margaret (our second GOM) set out the room with photographs and magazines so we could re-live previous Hashes. Maurice took over as the new GOM.

Why not join us?

If you are keen (but not..well squeaky keen) on cross-country running then why not turn up for a run (or walk) with the Kennet Valley Hash? We are a friendly bunch of about fifteen runners and maybe 15 walkers who meet every other Sunday. We follow a trail of about 5-6 miles for runners and about half of that distance for walkers.

Each time we meet at a different pub within a radius of about 15 miles from Marlborough – so we see a lot of beautiful countryside and it never rains. (strange but true – well not in the last six years anyway)

Hashing is not a race: it’s more a “hare and hounds” event following a trail laid earlier by a different volunteer each time. With plenty of false trails and blind alleys to check out the leader can become Tail-End Charlie at any time.

We set off at 11 am sharp(ish) and are usually back around 12:30 for a couple of pints and sunday lunch.  It’s a lot of fun, non competitive, good exercise, good beer and no anoraks allowed so why not try it and see?

Advanced age and/or lack of ability are no bar to participation. On on!
